Smart Commute Awards

The Smart Commute Awards recognize the outstanding efforts of the employer members for the successful implementation of their Smart Commute programs.  Each Smart Commute organization nominates their top employers for their commitment, leadership, innovation and results achieved within the last year. Regionally, the 2012 Smart Commute Employer of the Year was Tim Hortons!

Since joining the Smart Commute program in September 2011, Tim Hortons carpool program has taken off.  With carpool parking at each of their head office buildings, Tim Hortons has seen their employees positively embrace Carpool Zone.

Smart Commute is integrated into Tim Hortons employee Corporate Wellness program. The onsite champion takes an active role in participating in all regional campaigns including Carpool Week, Bike to Work Day, Clean Air Commute and Smart Commute Week. Each campaign always demonstrates a very high level of employee engagement and interest.

Tim Hortons is constantly focused on community engagement including their Tim Hortons Children Foundation and “Run for the Camps” campaign. This year, Tim Hortons Director of Business Sustainability and Responsibility, Tim Faveri, showed his dedication to the Smart Commute Halton program by speaking at the City of Burlington’s breakfast with the Mayor event. This was a recruitment event which focused on highlighting the benefits of the program to Burlington businesses in attendance.

Tim Hortons continues to grow within the Smart Commute program as they are always looking for ways to improve the overall health and wellness of their employees while simultaneously looking to reduce their company’s carbon footprint.

Currently, they have 46 employees in the carpool program, with 12 registered carpools.
